Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Policy

In scientific publishing, the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility are not only ethical responsibilities but also essential components of academic progress. The Cardiovascular Academy Society promotes a DEIA-focused approach to foster a publishing environment grounded in these values for its official journal.

Expanding Representation
The Association supports the active participation of researchers, editors, and reviewers from historically underrepresented communities in scientific publishing processes—based on criteria such as race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, socioeconomic background, or geographic location. Accordingly, the journal bases the selection of authors, reviewers, and editors solely on scientific merit and content relevance. Personal identity or institutional affiliation must not influence evaluation processes.

Inclusivity in Editorial Structures
The Association encourages diversification of the journal’s editorial board, advisory committees, and reviewer pool to include individuals from different academic disciplines, career stages, geographic regions, and lived experiences. Periodic reviews will ensure balanced representation and ongoing development of these structures over time.

Conscious and Unbiased Evaluation
Editors and reviewers are expected to carry out all evaluation processes with impartiality, professional sensitivity, and cultural awareness. The Association promotes editorial training and awareness initiatives aimed at reducing unconscious bias as part of its editorial practices.

Accessible Publishing
The Association considers the accessibility of digital content for individuals with disabilities a critical area of responsibility. Accordingly, all published academic content is expected to comply with national and international accessibility standards, minimizing technical barriers. Particular importance is placed on studies addressing health disparities, social determinants of health, and access to services.

Feedback and Reporting Violations
It is a shared responsibility among all stakeholders to report any actions that contradict or violate DEIA principles. All concerns and complaints will be addressed in accordance with the ethical evaluation processes defined by COPE.

Association Commitment
The Cardiovascular Academy Society is committed to implementing DEIA principles in support of a transparent, fair, and inclusive academic environment. Creating a publishing ecosystem where diverse voices are visible and contributions are made under equal conditions is one of the core objectives of the Association.
